Letter from Les to the SAMAA

This was discussed at the AGM. Here's a copy of the letter that went out over Les' signature:

The Chairman
The South African Model Aircraft Association
PO Box Alberton

Dear Joe,
One of the SAMAA Special Interest Groups - The MGA - asked us to submit details on our gliding members. In particular whether or not they were adept solo pilots. The detail would form part of a central SAMAA register. It would also appear on the SAMAA membership cards.
We expect you will ask for similar details on all our members.
For many years we have strongly promoted membership of the SAMAA. No one may join JOMAC who is not a member. We are pleased when individual members gain SAMAA proficiency badges.
But we see little merit in a central solo register.
At JOMAC we have an informal but effective solo scheme. It takes account of local conditions and safety needs. It has worked well in the past.
Thus we shall take no action on this request.
Keep up the good work for the SAMAA.

Yours sincerely,

Les Hunt
(Chairman, JOMAC).
